It’s Bayou Classic weekend!
And I guess Thanksgiving weekend, too! Anyway, GS, GS, GS, GS, U,U,U, I THOUGHT YOU KNEW!
Hey, Suge!
Happy holiday weekend! Many folks across the country are gearing up for dinner with relatives. Although the celebration of Thanksgiving and the slaughtering of Native Americans is not the focus and will forever be looked down upon, having food with family you haven’t seen in a while is always an appreciated celebration.
The Bayou Classic, on the other hand, in my opinion, is all about celebrating being BLACK. Can I get an amen?
Here’s the thing, sha: the Classic is one of the most attended events in New Orleans. It’s a weekend of fun, friends, food, and football. Two very notable HBCUs in Louisiana (who am I kidding? All HBCUs are notable in my book!) get together every year for a weekend of excitement. Alumni, current students, and folks who just love the Blackness of it all attend events (and visit bars down Bourbon Street) celebrating Grambling State University and Southern University.
Now, if you know me, you know I went to the best HBCU in the world—Grambling! (If you went somewhere else, how is it my fault you make bad decisions?) I usually make it a point to go to the Classic. Unfortunately, being a grown-ass adult in another state with a job doesn’t make that easy. So, I won’t be in attendance this year. I’m devastated, but I’ll be okay.
I love Historically Black Colleges and Universities and made it my mission as an undergrad to attend one, and I’m so glad that I did.
Anyway, Suge, there won’t be a Sunday Brunch this Sunday. But here’s a treat for you—the World Famed Tiger Marching Band performing in 2016, a year I was a student at Gram! And in case one of those Southern University folks talks mess, remind them that they don’t even know their school colors. Because I swear, I’ve seen like eight different shades of blue!
I’m just poking. I’ll see y’all next week!
Loved this one.
