Ancestors Said: 365 Meditations for a Peaceful Year, is the best daily affirmation book I own. When Ehime Ora (the author) first released it, I had been very new to discovering my spirituality and was wary of trusting self help books and workshops. For good reason too, because chile, there are some scammers out there! Anyway, I found Ehime while scrolling on Twitter (yes, Twitter, his momma named him Twitter and that’s what I’m gonna call him!) one day. Scrolling down her timeline gave me the most overwhelming sense of joy and peace; I knew I had been directed specially to her.
Choose to no longer be an empty body, your bones were not made to hold the sadness of others. You are not a host, a coffin for people to bury themselves into. - Ehime Ora
I felt instant relief, ya heard me?! INSTANT! Like I had been given a key to a world that was meant for me and had been waiting for me this whole time! So when she self published Ancestors Said I went straight to the E - Commerce site (that shall not be named) and brought a copy for myself and my best friend. I have no interest in trying to convience you to read this book, sha.
To “self improve” and “self care” yourself until there is nothing of you left, that’s not my goal. Because you are you, and a lovely you, you are. My goal, here, right now, is to simply push along a more healed version of you. My optimism in this book and its’ author is so strong. I know it will aid in your journey of fullness and clarity. If that is your desire, if not, it is still a beautiful self affirming tool.
Do I sound like a cult leader? Maybe. But I’m not leading you buy smoothies, or drink cyanide laced koolaid. I’m suggesting you get this book, so that you can have another perspective on life, your life, shit, the meaning of life.
My bad shug, I got all philosophical on you; you’ll get used to it. Anyway, this book, with its’ daily prayers and affirmations, encourages the reader to take a breath, take a second, and find joy. Sometimes we get so busy and overwhelmed with outside factors. Job, family, school work, etc etc, it can be so harsh and noisy that we ultimately forget ourselves.
There’s this quote that’s been floating around the interweb since early MySpace days (did I just age myself?). It’s something like “are you living or are you surviving?”. At one time in my life, I would ponder that question often, and after getting Ancestors Said, I’ve found myself pondering less and less. When is the last time you asked yourself this question?
Ancestors Said is the perfect start to your day, and if you’re like me, the perfect start to a morning meditation. This book is not about self improvement, self help or manifesting. It is about centering yourself and reconnecting to your core. Before I leave you, remember this, there is only one you and there will only ever be one you. So take care of you, sha. I love you, and I’ll see you next time!
